The Galo Plaza Lasso Foundation was established in 1995 as a continuation of the long-lasting legacy of Ecuadorian ex-president Galo Plaza. It is a non-governmental, non-profit agency whose prime mission is to sponsor, develop and carry out endeavours that benefit the quality of life of the inhabitants of Zuleta and the region through education, conservation and socioeconomic development programs.
Currently the Foundation works with the community in various environmental and development projects: Zuleta Embroidery, Andean Condor Conservation, Our Ancestors, Tourism and Community. We collaborate with public and private organisations, and we are part of the National Group for the Andean Condor in Ecuador.
To achieve its planned objectives, the Foundation maintains self-financing initiatives as well as support from business and organizations that believe in us.
Currently the Foundation sells the embroidered items made in community workshops, through a participative business model, to generate fair prices and income for the community. The Foundation supports and encourages the economic development of the embroidery association.
